What Milo is

Milo provides chat assistants that local businesses install on their own websites. The assistant answers visitors' questions using information the business provides, and — when a visitor chooses to — collects their contact details so the business can get back to them.

For chats on a business's website, that business decides what the assistant knows and receives the messages and contact details you share (the business is the data controller). Milo processes this data on the business's behalf.

What we collect

When you chat with an assistant on a business's website:

  • The messages you type in the chat.
  • Contact details you choose to leave (name, phone number, email, and your message), so the business can contact you.
  • A random visitor identifier stored in your browser, used only to keep your conversation together. It does not track you across websites.

If you have a Milo dashboard account (business owners), we store your email address and the business information you enter.

How the data is used

  • To answer your questions in the chat.
  • To pass your contact request on to the business you contacted.
  • To show businesses their own conversations and leads.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use chat content for advertising.

Who processes the data

We use a small number of service providers to run Milo:

  • Supabase — database and login hosting.
  • Vercel — application hosting.
  • OpenAI — generates the assistant's replies. Chat messages are sent to OpenAI to produce a response; OpenAI does not use API data to train its models.
  • Resend — delivers email notifications (for example, when a business receives a new lead).

How long we keep it

Conversations and leads are kept so the business can follow up and review its chat history, and are deleted when the business asks us to or ends its Milo subscription. You can also ask for your data to be deleted at any time (see below).

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you can object to or restrict its processing. If you contacted a business through its chat assistant, you can contact that business directly or write to us and we'll help.

You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority (in Denmark: Datatilsynet).
